Cartonnage - Picture Frame Class
Learn to make a needlepoint picture frame with a removable backing and hardware to insert your photograph.
Using high-quality methods from Cartonnage and Needlepoint finishing, this two part class will result in a beautiful frame you can cherish for years to come.
The art of making handmade boxes like these is called cartonnage, which originated in France in the 1800s and refers to constructing boxes from greyboard and applying beautiful papers, bookcloth, or fabrics. It’s the perfect medium for elevated needlepoint finishes. This art form differs from other forms of needlepoint finishing. It uses non-yellowing PVA acid-free glue throughout the process. We will instruct for square/rectangle opening.
This is a virtual class, hosted on Zoom.
Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 12 PM ET - 3:00 PM ET both days
This class is appropriate for Cartonnage beginners, but some matboard finishing experience is strongly suggested.
